The Hunger Games
I just finished the first book in The Hunger Games series and I’m addicted! It catches you in the first chapter alone. The main character is strong female voice named Katniss Everdeen (the names are weird) who lives in a post-apocalyptic world. The government is powerful and cruel and keeps its citizens in line by holding a yearly competition where one boy and one girl is chosen at random to compete to the death. The characters are really interesting, especially those of the Capitol. A character named Effie Trinket has pink hair and green skin, which seems a little odd to me. I know they are currently making a movie (Jennifer Lawrence starring as Katniss) and hope that because of the funny looking people that it won’t turn out to be too campy. There’s a love triangle, of course, and the relationship between Katniss and Peeta is a little forced and cheesy. I think because Katniss seems like such a strong and fierce girl that she would never say or do the things she did to Peeta… However, it’s one of the best and can’t-put-down-until-I’m-done books I’ve read since Harry Potter. I heartily recommend it to everyone! It’s 380 pages (paperback) but it’s a quick and easy read! I finished it in 2 days, a record for me…
